Upside Down Thanks

The sensorium of a paper brain
knows dappled sunlight to bring
Yellow Jackets, and black- eyed Susans

knows the taste of insatiability
as almonds milked with honey,
as the dress flowing down tissue skin
and the imprisonment of bound ribs.

It knows love’s pink smoke,
the waves of never-ending work,
and what happens when the ink bleeds.

It knows being wrapped in gold
and left to hang— on an empty wall.
